A week of BIRTHdays, PLANTING days, days with FOOD, and MEMORIAL day....

Last week we had two big birthdays! Myles turned 30 on May 26th and Donna's birthday was the 28th!! It's events like these that make it hard to be so far away!

On Thursday we got to watch the farmer plant the field by our apartment....he had a red CASE tractor! Reminded us of Grandma and Grandpa Kaufman!!

On Friday, we decided to give Cailin some baby food! Started with carrots...I guess you could say it didn't go so well!! I usually put some really cute pictures of Cailin on this blog, but these I had to post! :) We have never seen faces like this before. This weekend we worked on the peas...MUCH better...she will actually eat them. We will just have to revisit the carrots later!

Friday night we had a family date night to a steakhouse in Elkton, SD. It was pretty good. Fun to get out and check out the area. Saturday we went to Sioux Falls to look for appliances for the house. Yesterday was a pretty lazy day. We checked out the appliances at Lowes in Brookings, then picked up two adirondack chairs from Ace Hardware. They need to be painted, but will look FANTASTIC on our new porch! Today we went back down to Sioux Falls and actually purchased the appliances! YIKES....that was a big drop in the bucket! Good to have over though.

After the bleeding stopped - we went to The Falls Park. Such a nice day and pretty area! Great way to spend Memorial Day, it was a serene area full of nature.....thinking of those we love!!

Much excitement since my last post! Buckle up, this will certainly be a long one!
Should be a quiet rest of the week.
TODAY:
So this morning Cailin got up around 5:00 am....I worked on getting her back to sleep but around 5:30 I started making her a bottle! About 10 minutes later the fire alarm in our apartment building went off....it was LOUD!
We didn't see any smoke, but still decided to go outside. Like a good Mom, I quickly packed the diaper bag---not knowing how long we would be out of the apartment. I packed a few toys, grabbed extra diapers, got a blanket and threw in a bottle and some formula. We leashed up Murphy and grabbed the car seat and Leon's keys. The alarm was so loud, I tried covering Cailin's ears the best I could. We didn't think about poor Murphy's ears - we was a spaz outside!! I unlocked the car and Cailin and I sat inside. THEN, I realized I left the bottle in the apartment! ugh....luckily we have the best daughter ever, she didn't even need it. We were back inside within about 20 minutes. What a great start to the day though! :P

We got the day back on track when Cailin and I went to Sioux Falls and met my Mom there! We had a full day of shopping!! :)
Cailin got a new toy to sit in......so far she really likes it!


She's also working on other 'life skills' such as reading and sitting!




Last weekend:
The weekend was a very busy one! One Friday we headed to Fairbank. We spent the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. Friday night Kennedy was even there waiting for us! Saturday Lisa, John and Grant came up to spend the night! We always have so much fun in Fairbank....we love spending time with everyone. There's never a dull moment! Of course, Cailin is LOVING the attention from Grandma! The weather was AWESOME on Sunday!

Cailin got to sit in this 'big girl' stroller! She was able to see everyone AND get pushed around.....such a tough life!!

SATURDAY:

The Strellner/Stanley wedding! What a great wedding - two great people, they make an awesome couple! The wedding was in Cedar Rapids. Cailin stayed in Fairbank. Leon and I stopped on the way to see the Clayberg's. It was a FAST visit, but great to see them and their family! There were some UNI staff at the wedding.....it was so fun to see them and visit with them. Leon and I got back to Fairbank around 11:00 pm. And drove back to SD on Sunday.

Thursday night:

was Grey's season finale! WOWSERS! It was pretty good! I don't pretend to know anything about the new health care plan - but could they bring back doctors that make house calls, I am pretty sure I don't feel safe visiting a hospital! Not to mention - from what I hear, it's legal to carry a gun in South Dakota!

Other odd things in SD:

1. Lots of four wheelers and motorcycles

2. MediaCom doesn't carry CMT or GSN (Game Show Network)! Ugh!

3. Speed limit is 75 mph - awesome!

Leon's Birthday!

Today is Leon's 34th birthday!! Whoo, hoo!!!!!!!!!!! He had a full day at work!

Cailin and I worked on a cake today and did some FAST shopping!

Leon attempted to blow out his candles! Good thing we didn't put 34 candles on the cake! ;)

Busy birthday month

So Cailin turned 6 months, which is crazy....but we have a BIGGER milestone...Leon's birthday is tomorrow!! May is a very busy birthday month.

The 17th was Owen Stanley's birthday and the 18th was Max Trzaskos and Avery Meyer's birthday....Leon the 20th. Then next week is Myles and Donna's!! A great month to P-A-R-T-Y! :)

Cailin was helping me prepare for Leon's birthday week!! It's tough transporting purchases from the parking garage to the 3rd floor! She volunteers her space when she can! :)

We got Cailin's 6 month pictures taken today....she's not really 6 months until Monday, but we just wanted to make sure we got the pictures done -- you know, 'cause we don't have any pictures of her!!! hee, hee

She is working really hard on sitting by herself. She can sit for a little while - depending on the amount of distractions around her!
Last night we hung out and had supper with some friends of ours, Erin and Owen, even had a trip to Dairy Queen! Now we are having a relaxing Saturday night (which means we aren't doing anything!). Tomorrow my Mom is coming up to Brookings and Leon is going golfing. Then, it's onto a new week! It's hard to believe that May is half over! WOW!
I don't know much more...big week coming up.....stay tuned! :)

Cailin is still growing like a weed. We can't believe the changes we have seen these last couple weeks! She is getting so strong and VERY aware of what is going on around her! She and Murphy are GREAT friends...for now!

Mother's Day! Leon and I headed down to Sioux Falls to meet my mom and grandma at Olive Garden! Cailin is so cute.....she gave me so many 'gifts': she spit up on me this morning, gave me two poopy diapers, ruined a onesie....then again she turned the day around with a lot of smiles, giggles, cuddling and napping on my chest.

Kentucky Derby! May 1, 2010

From Brookings, SD to Fairbank, IA to Louisville, KY and back in five days!
It was a fast trip, but SO worth it! Thursday night we drove to Fairbank. Cailin got to stay with Grandma and Grandpa, while we drove to Louisville on Friday. My mom made the trip with us. Because she and Dad lived there for many years, she still has some friends down there - so we were able to stay with them! We got to meet my brother and his family down there. Mom watched my nieces on Saturday while we went to the Derby. The weather was horrible - WIND, rain and clouds. YUCKY! Luckily we came prepared with rain suits a tarp and a canopy, so we stayed pretty dry and warm. Unlike the people below who had a little fun in the mud!!

I did have a couple winning tickets! Leon was REALLY close to hitting the trifecta!!
It's a fast trip, but we always have such a fun time!!

Anniversary!
